Sudbury’s Liberal Democrat Councillor Paul Lorber has accused Labour-run Brent Council of failing to clear blocked gullies and thus contributing to flooding in local streets.
Councillor Lorber reported two blocked gullies in Stapenhill Road, Wembley a few weeks ago when the road was flooded during heavy rains.
The Council failed to deal with it and the road was again completely flooded and blocked on Monday 11 June (see picture above).
The Liberal Democrat councillor claims that the situation with blocked gullies and drains has got worse after Labour Councillors cut street cleaning from three times per week to just once per week. As a result more rubbish is left in local streets longer and ends up blocking up rainwater gullies.
Councillor Lorber also reported problems in Copland and Crawford Avenues in his Sudbury Ward where pools of water blocked the pavement.
Commenting on the problems, Cllr Lorber said:
The responsibility for this fiasco rests with Labour Councillor James Powney who is the architect of the street cleaning cuts. The sooner the new Leader of Brent Council gets rid of him the better.
The dirty state of many Brent streets is a disgrace. Labour councillors should be ashamed of the bad image they are creating just before the Olympics.
